The score for Here There Be Monsters explores two coexisting realities. One of the perceived raw and real world conveyed through acoustic instruments, and one of a dark, monster-inhabited world represented by twisted electroacoustics and sound design.

Elki’s lullaby follows her emotional arch throughout the first scene of the film with a delicate piano motif. Beginning with innocence, transitioning into loneliness, and resolving with defiance.

As Elki wakes, the Monster begins to hunt. An ominous granulated flugelhorn ramps into an all out onslaught with smashed nail percussion, unsettling electronics and crushed double bass friction.

Finally, as Noelle escapes from her own nightmare, disparate realities become one. Elki’s lullaby becomes her own as it lulls her to sleep.
